June 25th marked the first ever virtual graduation ceremony for the Botho University, Maseru campus where over 250 class of 2020 graduates celebrated their academic achievements from various academic disciplines of studies. The event was officiated by The Honorable Prime Minister, Dr. Moeketsi Majoro as the chief guest.
Due to the COVID 19 social distancing policies, the University organized a live graduation ceremony on various social media channels including Youtube and Facebook which received over 2000 views. During the live streaming session, viewers had the opportunity to pass congratulatory messages to the graduates LIVE and were able to interact through the LIVE Chat platform.
Giving her address, the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sheela Raja Ram said she was proud of the graduates as they continued to show dedication and hard work through the pandemic. “You are indeed special graduates as this pandemic changed the way you study – yet you coped, trust me this experience will make you stronger, resilient and more future-ready.” she said.
In his remarks, The Honorable Prime Minister said, “Though I would have loved to attend this event on the University grounds, but I am nonetheless very delighted to speak to the entire academic community of Botho University across the width and breath of the kingdom to celebrate both the achievement of the University and the graduates”.
The Chief Guest, Honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Moeketsi Majoro moved on to congratulate all those who were graduating in their different academic disciplines & awards and all graduates for the perfect completion of their studies in a very challenging academic journey. He continued to mention that although the pandemic is still present & claiming human lives it has brought some important positive impacts, inter alia, the online learning & teaching in the higher education sub sector.
Dr. Majoro congratulated Botho University in ensuring that despite the presence of the pandemic, teaching & learning has not been halted in anyway and is firmly confident that Botho University has imparted the skills and knowledge for a complex global economy of today which are encapsulated in the well-known Botho Graduate profile (BGP). He concluded by reminding the general public to adhere to the health protocols of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health in Lesotho.
