BU Lesotho student shines at Wace Global Challenge

Ms Lebohang Virginia Lepota, a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computing student, completed the WACE Global Challenge. WACE is an experiential learning project that connects a global network of universities and teams of diverse students to assist organizations to advance initiatives aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. For over five weeks, the students work in multinational teams to help businesses, governments and community organizations to identify practical shared value initiatives to create social, environmental and economic value.

Ms Lepota has glowing reviews about her participation in the challenge and applauds Botho University for introducing the students to the challenge. “Botho University always presents opportunities like this to its students via emails, which is where I took an initiative to join the program. To every student who was the recipient of the Deans’ award for the July to December 2022 semester, Botho University met us halfway by giving us a discount of 75 % over the standard participation fee needed to join the program,” says Ms Lepota.

She notes that the challenge is key in helping students become employable and industry-ready as it develops global skills needed in the competitive job market such as effective communication, collaboration and cultural intelligence. Ms Lepota completed a three-week virtual project where multidisciplinary teams of students worked collaboratively to solve a challenge for a real organisation.

“It takes an effort to be involved in projects that make a huge impact in our communities. If we can unite together in our communities and ensure that the sustainable development goals are met, we will promote a sustainable future for all of us. Nevertheless, this experiential learning has really enhanced my strategies to solve complex problems, improved my confidence in applying the knowledge I learned in the classroom into the real-world experience and has equipped me with enough skills to be able to collaborate and work well with any citizen from any country. Therefore, As a WACE Global Challenge completer in 2022, I highly recommend every student to take part in this program,” says Ms Lepota on the highlights of participating in the WACE Global Challenge.
