Celebrating the spirit of Botho in Art

Top: Spirit of Botho vibrant mural in all its glory. Bottom Left: BU Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sheela Raja Ram, adding a stroke of color to the mural. Bottom Right: Dean, Faculty of Hospitality and Sustainable Tourism (FHST), Prof. Oliver Chikuta, also participated in the mural painting.

As part of the BU 25th Anniversary Celebrations, a mural with an array of colors outside the Engineering Lab walls was commissioned by young Batswana to interpret “The Spirit of Botho.”

On the wall, you can make out words that embrace BU’s presence in Botswana, Lesotho, Nambia, Eswatini, Ghana, and the global reach of the Blended and Distance Learning Campus. The words on the mural also celebrate BU’s commitment to the spirit of community :

The vibrant painting has been a wonderful addition to the Gaborone Campus and has now become a favorite photography spot for students, staff, and guests. The staff couldn’t resist taking pictures during the Botswana Independence Day celebrations dressed in traditional regalia on the 29th of September 2022.
