In a quest to ‘catch them fresh’, the Faculty of Hospitality and Sustainable Tourism conducted an orientation program for first-year students on the 27th of October 2021. The objective was to introduce the students to tourism and hospitality and to prepare them for their studies. Two distinguished industry experts graced the event, Mr Andrew Kamanga, the Chief Operations Officer for Protea-Marriot Hotels and Mrs Joyce Morontshe, the Hospitality Manager at Botswana Tourism Organisation.
The presenters emphasised the need for passion and hard work if one considers a career in the hospitality and tourism industry. They both pointed out that hospitality has endless opportunities both in and outside Botswana. Mr Kamanga, on behalf of Protea-Marriot, committed to taking BU students for internships and helping mentor them to become professionals. The Dean of the faculty, Dr Oliver Chikuta, emphasised the importance of grooming, etiquette and a service culture among hospitality students.
