As part of Botho University’s commitment to strengthen and collaborate with diverse stakeholders in Lesotho, BU recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) in the presence of the LMPS Commissioner of Police – Mr. Holomo Molibeli and Dr. Abhishek Ranjan – Dean and Head of Campus representing BU.
Other delegates present during the signing were Deputy Commissioners of Police – Mr. Paseka Mokete, Mr. Sera Makharilele, Mr. Beleme Lebajoa, and Assistant Commissioner of Police- Mr. Holomo Molibeli, Deputy Commissioners of Police- Mr. Paseka Mokete, Mr. Sera Makharilele, Mr. Beleme Lebajoa, the Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Mamello Ntsane and Mrs. Makhosi Hlalele – Assistant Dean also represented the University.
Mr. Sera Makharilele, Deputy Commissioner of Police, highlighted the importance of the newly formed working relationship, which will benefit and pave a bright future for the two parties. Signing the MoU, Dr. Ranjan emphasized the need to grow together as stakeholders. He said, “The university’s goal is to generate graduates who can positively contribute to a country’s progress.” He further mentioned that students should use their talents in a real-world setting like the one LMPS would provide and always remember that Botho University’s doors are always open.
In his closing remarks, the Commissioner of Police stated that the two parties took a heroic step forward. The LMPS strives to work with stakeholders in various ways, including capacity building, such as computer literacy. The University is currently offering a mentorship program relevant to the LMPS. LMPS as an organization gives BU students internship opportunities. The Memorandum of Understanding signed between Botho University and the Lesotho Mounted Police Service entails the following:
- Internship and Graduate placements
- The LMPS teams will join the BU Industry Forums.
- Collaboration on Research & Development and BU will become a preferred training partner for LMPS workers (Corporate Training)
