BOTHO UNIVERSITY CELEBRATES STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

On the 29th January 2019, Botho University held the Student Excellence Awards to celebrate and honour those who made a positive impact in the BU community through representing the university as Brand Ambassadors. The awards were aimed at appreciating students, alumni and other university stakeholders who have shown hard work and determination in the areas of entrepreneurship, culture, community engagement, special needs, sport and leadership for the year 2018.

The Awards were attended by students, distinguished guests, media and Donald Molosi, actor, author and playwright who gave a key note address. Addressing the guests, Donald advised students to take their talents and skills seriously and gave an example of how he started his career from an early age of fifteen, which pushed him to do more and become what he is today. It was a fun filled event as there was entertainment by the BU traditional group of talented young women and men who scooped position two in the 2018 tertiary competitions.

Winners were awarded under categories such as: Best Sportsperson of the year, Best Committed Team Member, Role Model of the year and the De Beers Valedictory Award. The Valedictory Award, which recognizes the MOU between BU and De Beers, was one of the special awards given to the best performing student who walked away with a P5000.00 and internship at any of the De beers branches either in South Africa or Namibia.

The event ended on a good note with networking over dinner and a celebration of achievements by taking pictures. This awards will be held again next year as the students’ achievements are a source of pride to the University.
