“A computer is a bicycle for your mind” – Steve Jobs

Learning to code teaches one how to think, as coding expands your creativity.

When you look at how the world is developing, coding is a very useful skill to posses.

Seeing a gap in the market and then creating an impressive way of addressing it is how most successful businesses come about. Girls Coding Academy is co-founded by seven women who saw a need to create a solution to bridge the gender gap in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths fields in Lesotho. And they did just that!

Maneo Mapharisa, Mamolapi Serutla, Matseliso Moruthane, Palesa Libe, Nkentso Ledimo, Tsoanelo Ramorakane and Palesa Mosehle are the founders of Girls Coding Academy. All within the Computer Science field with both local and international exposure and experience in the same fields. Being part of the Female 2017 Africa Code Week trainers team inspired them to start their own organisation.

The academy is dedicated to educating, mentoring, innovating and equipping young women and girls with technological skills by club program, campus program and summer immersion. Girls Coding Academy offers a range of one-on-one sessions, group sessions, computer skills sessions for women, summer and winter coding camps, and school coding clubs.

Their mission is to get girls coding to reduce the gap in the STEM fields in Lesotho and across the world. To engage and encourage young women to participate in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths or STEM fields.

Not only does coding improve your analytical and problem-solving skills but it is a life long skill you can use in any field.
